If your teeth have damaged enamel and are prone to staining, this can be rectified with crowns or veneers. Where the enamel is sound but you just can’t seem to shift the stains, then we recommend teeth whitening.

Tooth whitening treatments last between sixty and ninety minutes.  The dentist applies a bleaching agent which is activated by light from the blue end of the spectrum. This procedure is entirely safe and effective.  See the results of the procedure in the image below.

Cosmetic Dental Procedures

A crown, also known as a cap, is a tooth-shaped cover that can be placed over a tooth which may be badly damaged or decayed. Small teeth can also be covered with a crown. Crowns can be all metal, porcelain fused to metal, or all ceramic. Metals include gold, palladium or a base-metal alloy – nickel or chromium. The all-metal or porcelain fused to metal crowns are stronger and are better choices for back teeth than ceramic crowns. Porcelain fused to metal and all-ceramic crowns are the same color as your natural teeth and look just like normal teeth.  See photo below.

Other cosmetic dental procedures such as veneers are thin shells that are bonded to the front parts of teeth and are not used for back teeth. If nearly all of the tooth remains, veneers can greatly improve the look of the tooth without having to cut it down enough to place a crown. Cosmetic problems that can be corrected with veneers include:

Bridges are the use of crowns for restoration, except they are in units of two or more to complete the case. The most common being three unit bridge where the tooth on each side of the space you are replacing are used to support the new tooth.

The Invisalign system is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth. Using advanced 3-D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign reveals your complete treatment plan, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position. A series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth.  These aligners move your teeth little by little. Each aligner is worn for approximately two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, until the final position of your teeth is achieved.

A crown is a porcelain cap designed to perfectly match the rest of your teeth. It provides both structural and aesthetic restoration.

A bridge is where two or more crowns are fixed together as a fixed prosthesis which unlike a denture is not removable.  Abridge also feels much more natural than dentures are and is more often the preferred option of tooth replacement.

Silver-grey coloured amalgam fillings can be replaced with white composite fillings which give a better aesthetic appearance.

Scaling is a basic but nevertheless a very important part of dental care. It should be done on a regular basis; ideally it should be done once every six months.

A scale and polish is necessary maintenance for your teeth as it removes calculus and hardened stains which cannot be removed with normal brushing. Ideally you should have a scale and polish every six months. Our cosmetic dentists use ultrasonic scalers before giving your teeth a polish which gives them an attractive glossy finish.

Another option for clean and polishing is air-jet polishing.  Stubborn stains from caffeine, tannin and tobacco can be removed with this process. This is a noninvasive method which gives immediate results and long lasting whiteness.

Fluoride and fissure sealant is a special coating which is applied to the back molar teeth to prevent decay. These teeth often have tiny fissures in which food can become impacted and trapped which in time, and can cause premature decay.

Filling these fissures with a fluoride treatment will make your teeth stronger and far less prone to decay. This treatment can be performed on healthy teeth as well as those showing signs of decay and is suitable for both children and adults.
