Breast Reduction with Lift

Why a Breast Reduction May be Required?

Many women want breast reduction surgery because of oversized breasts; this condition is medically known as breast hypertrophy. Breast hypertrophy usually occurs in both breasts and occurs during puberty or just afterward. Sometimes the over enlargement occurs during pregnancy and then the enlargement persists. Although it is rare, the sudden onset of breast enlargement does occur. Often, women decide to do this to relieve the physical symptoms that are caused by oversized heavy breasts, including neck pain, back and skin irritation.

A cosmetic surgery breast reduction with lift procedure includes the reduction of breast fat, tissue, and skin to make them smaller, firmer and lighter. You can also select to reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. The surgical incisions are very similar to a breast lift, except with this procedure, implants may not be necessary. It takes several months for the surgery to settle, and the shape will change slightly as it assumes a more rounded appearance. Over time the surgical scars will fade.

After your surgeon examines you and they will advise you what procedure is best in your case, as well as giving you all the information you need about the surgery. Refer to the information above in Breast enlargement for details about the pre and post procedures.

It’s common for a breast reduction to be carried out with liposuction to the hips or stomach to give a more balanced proportion. Enquire here and receive a quote from us.

It is highly recommended you read the preconditions and risks page before embarking on any surgery.

Benefits of Cosmetic Surgery Breast Reduction

A cosmetic surgery breast reduction with lift procedure, is typically performed to create a more proportional chest curvature with your overall body shape, and to alleviate problems with health, activities, and clothing. The procedure can also help achieve symmetry where breasts are not equal in size. The plastic surgeon can change the firmness and shape of the breasts to create a more aesthetic appeal. Nipple surgery may also be carried out to reduce areola size. The breast reduction candidate may need a breast lift to achieve a fully satisfactory outcome.

Best candidates for Breast Reduction

The best candidates for surgery are well-adjusted women whose oversized breasts cause medical and health problems, interfere with routine activities, suffer related self-consciousness issues or disrupt sleep.

Breast Reduction Surgical procedure

The operation is carried out under general anaesthetic, and an overnight stay is required. The procedure can vary, but in most cases, the excess skin is removed and the nipple is elevated to sit higher on the breast mound.

You will normally be given surgical markings encircling the areola and continuing above the areola to the new area for the nipple. The markings also continue down below the nipple, and horizontally following the natural curve of the crease underneath your breast. Incisions will be made following these markings also known as the anchor incision.

On completion of the procedure, the stitches will remain around the areola and nipple area, in a vertical line underneath the nipple and horizontally under the breast. If the breasts were not too large initially then some techniques can avoid the horizontal scar altogether.

Breast Reduction Recovery and Post-op care

The extent of how sore, bruised, and swollen your breasts are after surgery, depends entirely on the individual. You can expect to wear a surgical bra for several days, or until swelling has subsided. A pain reliever or creams will be prescribed by your surgeon if necessary – DO NOT take aspirin for 2 weeks after surgery this can increase the risk of bleeding. Stitches will be removed after two weeks. Discomfort will subside after a few days; however the recovery time varies between each person. The nursing team will make sure you are recovering well, and be on call if you have any concerns.

Ensure you eat nourishing foods and make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Straining or heavy lifting should be avoided after surgery for at least the following month, this can cause the breasts to swell and increase pressure. You should be able to return to full activity within a few weeks.

We provide excellent post-care support, which includes follow-up visits and programs to assist your recovery. If you have any concerns or questions, please let us know and we will schedule an appointment with the surgeon.

The surgery does leave scars, although they will be covered by your bra or bathing suit. The scars do heal over time, and will the time to heal will depend on your age and health.

Your new look following Breast Reduction

A breast reduction is permanent, however over time, breast shape and size will change with gravity and during the stages of life such as; ageing, weight loss/gain and pregnancy.

Every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible will be made. It is still important to remember that scars from breast lift can be permanent and extensive. They often remain lumpy and red for months, and then gradually become less obvious, sometimes fading to thin white lines. The scars can usually be placed so that you can wear even revealing low tops.

Results can be enhanced or last longer when breast implants are inserted as part of the procedure.
