I started to consider surgery about 18 months before I actually went. I was getting older and the signs were starting to show. Everything was dropping – gravity sucks!!!!
I did a lot of research on the internet and then found GORGEOUS GETAWAYS. I read all the information that was available (which is a great deal more than most places) and then rang Robynne in Australia who could answer all the questions that I had. It makes a huge difference that Robynne has actually been there for procedures and can tell you all the gory details that you want to know when you are making the decision.
I went on the holiday by myself and was very happy with that. I did not realise just how well I would be looked after while I was there. It was very nice to meet up with other people who had also had surgery and we had a great time seeing the sites of KL together.
I didn’t look at surgery at home because I knew it would be much more expensive. I have been to Malaysia before and I knew that I would enjoy the time there.
When I was checked into the hospital everything was very professional. They took me to different sections to test many different things. The surgeon came to visit me quite late, but he was very relaxed and very happy to chat with me about any problems or difficulties that I had. The GORGEOUS GETAWAYS staff were lovely and my manager visited me every day in hospital.
Just after surger,y I felt a bit horrid but that is to be expected after 10 hours of surgery. I slept for the first day and my doctor visited me 4 or 5 times just to make sure that everything was fine. I was discharged 3 days later when I was starting to feel OK.
The recovery is very rapid at first. Every day you are 100% better then the day before which is very exciting. Unfortunately this rate slows down after a while and the end of the recovery becomes painfully slow.
The day after I got out of hospital I went shopping. The third day, I did a full day trip around KL with GORGEOUS GETAWAYS, so I didn’t spend any time sitting around. I think this is better as it gets the circulation going and it helps you forget about bits and pieces that might be hurting. It doesn’t help to sit around and mope.
I was very happy going home although I was still very swollen from my ears to the bottom of my feet. Since I got home most of the swelling has gone and I have lost 2 dress sizes.
New people that I meet now can’t believe my age which is always nice. Nothing in my life has really changed, but I just feel much better about myself than I did and that is always a very worth while reason to do anything.
Everyone should definitely do it. It is so worth while.
It is really great while you are in KL to have someone to do things for you. Pick you up and take you to the doctor. The nurse who visits each morning is an angel. The trips that are organised are great. None of these things are necessary, but it makes the whole experience so much easier and more pleasant.
