A step in the right direction

After losing around 100kg following Gastric Sleeve surgery, I had a LOT of excess skin that was annoying me. I wanted my skin to fit my body!

I saw an article in a magazine about Gorgeous Getaways and searched the site to see if anyone else had a body like mine, they did and look at what they could do. I was convinced. The full body package was for me. I sent off my first email and that was the beginning of an amazing journey.

I had never considered plastic surgery before but now that I needed to wear longer and longer sleeves to hide my flabby arms and my legs flapping together when I walked. It seemed like the only thing I could do to get my body the way I wanted it. I had lost so much weight, my body deserved skin to match.

Looking into the cost of surgery in NZ, I knew that I would only be able to afford to correct one bit of my body. Going to Malaysia meant I could get it all done in one go for a fraction of the price.

Nothing left to chance

Arriving at KLIA was EXACTLY as the website had said, detail for detail. It’s wonderful these days to find a company that not only meets expectations but exceeds them. Every detail was as promised, pickups, appointments and support staff. All were wonderful.

The hospital was more like a 5 star hotel, the nurses attended to my every need and were so patient particularly when helping me into my compression garments! Dr. Jalil is FANTASTIC – so calm, relaxed and skillful.

I had two surgeries – a week between each, bottom half first (9 and a half hours) and top half a week later (7 and a half hours). I was physically and mentally prepared for them. Dr. J had explained everything to me. I had asked all my questions and couldn’t wait to get on with it. I stayed in hospital for a few days following the first op but the second one I was out just after 24 hours. Everything went so well.

Following the first surgery, my nurse took me off the morphine in the morning so that I could have a shower and I wanted a shower. I never went back on the morphine but instead went for a tentative walk that afternoon. Just around the ward and then the next day went for a walk around the garden outside my room. It wasn’t easy. I went slowly and felt like I was in a dream but I did it and haven’t looked back since.

New chapter, new me, new life

I was in KL for three weeks and spent most of it taking it easy and recovering which was exactly the right thing for me to do. I met with other Gorgeous Getaways clients at the Wednesday afternoon tea and at lunch, everyone was doing so well and we were all able to quiz each other about the surgery each had had.

I was ready to go home after three weeks away. Dr. Jalil said that if I was staying longer he would be able to do more, but not this time round. I wanted to get home, settle in my own bed and carry on recovering at my leisure. Perhaps next time?

It’s still early days yet and I know it will take a while for everything to settle, drain and stop swelling. The first time I actually took time and looked at myself in a full length when I got home felt really strange. It was me, but it wasn’t. There was a new shape to get used to – bits of my body that were new to me and bits that had gone, never to be seen before. I giggled and looked again. I felt feminine for the first time in years. It’s really strange seeing a stranger in the mirror that was me!

When Dr. Jalil saw me for my final appointment before I flew home he reminded me that I had undertaken ‘massive’ surgery. It has been a massive step in many ways and I will explore them in the months to come. If I can do this, I can do ANYTHING!

If you’re thinking of doing something similar – do it! If it’s right for you then get on and do it. Talk to people, get the inside information, weigh up the benefits and book. Gorgeous Getaways are so professional, organized, understanding and know what they are talking about because they’ve been
there and have the scars to prove it.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Gorgeous Getaways and have already been singing their praises in the 2 weeks I have been home. It’s amazing how many people would like something fixed but want someone to have been there and done that before they try it.

Well, I have and that’s why I say DO IT. Gorgeous Getaways has been too. Talk to them and see what they can do for you for your cosmetic surgery makeover.
