Nobody can deny that Mexico has been shining in the past few months despite the pandemic travel restrictions.  The so-called “wetbacks” country has proven to be above and beyond, and Mexicans have surprised the most skeptical international visitors.  It has also surpassed the expectations of the world, by being a major league player of the new normal protocols.  However, last November, the CDC warned all US Citizens against traveling because of the rise in covid-19 cases. Even though the border between Mexico and the United States is closed to nonessential travel, this directive does not apply to travel by air. Among the 31 states in Mexico, there are many already stamped with “Safe Travels” approved by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) joining a list of tourism destinations around the world, which certifies that all hospitality companies are complying with the protocols of hygiene and sanitization standards based on recommendations by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Rolf Meyer, Head of United Airlines Mexico, has confirmed the increase in flights for the winter season on its route from Los Angeles to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos. It will also increase the weekend service to Cozumel from Chicago, Denver, and Houston.   Likewise, there will be uninterrupted service on December 19th, 2020 from Cleveland to Cancun, and from Houston to Mazatlán.  Flights from Chicago to Cozumel, Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta will increase. From Denver to Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos will continue.

Hugo López Gattel, Undersecretary of Health of Mexico, has praised the work done in Quintana Roo in order to control the pandemic. For which he has predicted an early change in the epidemiological traffic light from the current yellow to green. Which will allow soon a 100 % occupation in every establishment.

Gloria Guevara Manzo, President, and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) announced along with Quintana Roo Governor, Carlos Joaquín, that the next WTTC Global Summit will be held in Cancun, on March 2021.  “Cancun was one of the first destinations approved by the WTTC as “Safe Travels”. And it has done an impressive job along the way” she said.  The Global Summit will be hold virtually and also face-to-face, and more than 1000 participants are expected to attend from all over the world.
